I appreciate you giving a serious answer to my question. I won’t speak on American-Israeli relations because that is a rabbit hole I don’t care to fall down.
As for your two main points, maps the tunnels, and send spec ops, those are things they should do, and Israel will do, but this is insufficient by themselves. Part of this will be your admitted lack of military knowledge.
Israel will send in ground forces to take care of the tunnels, but it will take more than spec ops. That is too large a task for them, and you can’t pump out spec ops at scale. It’s a military impossibility. They will need to use their infantry because of sheer manpower needed.
As for getting to the tunnels, before they can get their ground forces in, they must use artillery to “soften” their targets. This is standard military procedure in every conflict. It is too dangerous to enter enemy terrorists, especially urban areas with ground forces with no prior bombardment. That is a suicide mission. Ask anyone in the infantry.
The IDF is not doing this indiscriminately. They are choosing the targets Hamas creates, when they place military targets in, or next to these civilian cites (which is a war crime btw, to bomb this target is not, because it becomes a legitimate military target).
We know the IDF is not doing an indiscriminate bombing because they have superior firepower and airforce. They haven’t really used their Air Force yet and they haven’t leveled every building, because they could.
The reason any building is standing in Gaza is not because Israel lack the ability to level it, it’s because Israel doesn’t want to strike it. Thus, they are using their intel and judgment to strike strategic targets.
They are complying with the rules of war, but before you appeal to them, read them.
