I’d love to answer that. But first, I should point out that the media’s representation to other countries and our own citizens is not an accurate representation of what is happening. They have their narrative and they select stories that fit. This is nothing shocking or new to any reasonable person. It would be like saying that the movie Jaws is an accurate representation of beach life and shark attacks in the US. Just isn’t accurate. For every one gun-related death there are 5-30 instances of guns being used to prevent crime, and repel criminals. According to the CDC.

So what can we do to prevent these random acts of violence. One way is to ask the shooters themselves. Since they are psychopathic in mature, they just tell us. For example, the Nashville shooter contemplated several targets and ultimately didn’t attack the other targets because they were “too secure”. So the secure schools were deemed too risky and she deliberately sought a school that was less secure. What would have happened if all the schools around her were secure? She wouldn’t have risked it, no school shooting.

Before anyone rebuts with not wanting schools to be more like prisons, let us remember that our airports, big buildings, VIPs, federal buildings, etc., are all secured and don’t look like prisons.

Securing schools works because the shooters admit that they do. And it balances a constitutional right for its citizens.
